Cutting to an Important Matter

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I was invited to photograph at City Hall (still hyped about this now!) where the events ‘Trim & Talk’ and ‘Barbershop & Chill’ were taking place!

I have captured shots from the events which centred around mental health, especially in the BAME community, and how the barbershop can play an important role in getting men to open up and talk about their issues. For many people, the barber’s chair can be seen as one which is a '“safe space’ for them. The event kickstarted this conversation, with a very good one taking place!

Keynote speakers at Trim & Talk were: Mark Maciver, Jermain Jackman, Vickey Te Velde, and Dr Jacqui Dyer.

Following on from ‘Trim & Talk’ was ‘Barbershop & Chill’ - an event where people can mingle and discuss matters raised in the previous event in more details. This was a fun conclusion to what was a lovely evening which raised so many good points! Well done Nathan Ashley for being key in coordinating this!
